Every Sunday morning, as part of our Gesher program, Rabbi Kanefsky challenges pre-bar and bat mitzvah kids -- seventh grade boys and sixth grade girls - to examine contemporary issues through a Jewish lens. As preteens develop their skills for critical thinking, Rabbi Kanefsky engages them in Jewish learning and conversation about topics such as our responsibility toward and interaction with the mentally ill; Torah perspectives on organ donation, cloning, gender differences, and science and the creation story; Israel's history of challenges; and prayer, Jewish ethics, and honoring parents and the elderly. To study the Holocaust, the students research, write and present skits for the annual Yom Hashoah Seder.
