LUNCH WITH THE HOMELESS
AID TO DARFUR
IMAGINE LA
EARTH MORASHA
BIG SUNDAY
CHANUKAH TOY DRIVE
GIVING SPIRIT
ALCOTT CENTER
BLOOD DRIVE

Our monthly lunches with our community's homeless are as enjoyable to the soul as they are to the palate. Join us as we mingle with those whom we do not often get to know in a dignified social setting. It's a priceless opportunity to expand your horizons and meet some interesting new people. Attendance at these lunches is free for all, but we gladly accept a donation that will cover the cost of a meal for you and for one of our homeless friends. Also, sponsoring a full lunch is an excellent way to honor a special occasion or memorial.

BDJ partners with Jewish World Watch to raise awareness of the genocide in Darfur and to increase community involvement in advocating an end to the atrocities. We participate in the annual Walk For Darfur, held in June. We also raise funds for special projects, such as the Solar Cookers for the women of Darfur, enabling them to provide for their families without venturing into dangerous regions.

BDJ is a Faith partner with Imagine LA, a non-profit organization whose vision is to mobilize the faith community to help make Los Angeles a city where no child sleeps on the street. As part of this effort, we recently embarked on an ambitious and exciting shul-wide project to mentor a family from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

For many years, BDJ members have formed a special relationship with residents at this neighborhood mental health treatment facility. We have celebrated Rosh Hashanah and Chanukah together, and we hope to deepen our relationship and points of contact while increasing our awareness of mental health issues. This year, we hope to deepen our relationship with the Center with one-on-one time with residents.

BDJ partners with the American Red Cross twice yearly to help add vital resources to our local blood blanks. Donating blood is an incredible mitzvah and should be considered by everyone in our community age who is in good health and at least 17 years old.
